Hair symbolizes memory and death, amongst other things, and is a representation of human beings as part of nature. 


The erasure pieces investigate the ephemeral existence of Man in nature and ideas of ownership and management.

The physical act of rubbing away the image is very close to scrubbing something clean, although polishing intends to enhance and this would seem to be destructive, also the sanding creates dust rather than removes it. The removing of fine detail from the image creates a platform for enhanced memory and imagination of what was or could be there.
